If the people of Britain gave up booze, smoking and taking illegal drugs, led a healthier lifestyle, avoiding sugar and fatty foods, took more exercise, we could wipe billions off the NHS budget at a stroke. Do yourself a favour give up booze on New Years Day. Give your body a chance, we all die in the end but why bring that day forward.
Sue Slipman and Fiona McTaggert were also members of the NUS Executive at the time. I knew Fiona quite well when she was a member of Battersea Labour Party. Lord Dubs was MP for Battersea at the time. I knew him quite well. He was and remains a great bloke. I did not get on so well with Fiona. On one occasion she accused a friend of mine of being a drunk. She then turned up at the next GC meeting with a can of Lager in her hand. The word hypocrite came to mind.
David Aaronovitch got beat by 1 point in Celebrity Mastermind. He was NUS President when I was a student .Very bright man. His father Sam wrote "The Road to Socialism". David was a Brilliant Orator. Very Funny man. Would love to meet him for lunch one day.
Listen my battersea friends
A warning to all friends...be careful about drink driving as we are getting close to Christmas and Police are out there checking on people.
Last night I was out for a few drinks. One thing lead to another and I had a few too many vodka's and then went onto the cocktails. Not a good idea. Knowing I was over the limit, I decided to leave my car at the pub and took a taxi home. Sure enough, I passed a police checkpoint leaving the wandsworth, where they were pulling over drivers and performing breathalyser tests. Because I was in a taxi they just waved it past. I arrived home safely and without incident, which was a real surprise as I've never driven a taxi before and I am not even sure where I got it from...
